SC Johnson to Receive World Environment Center 2015 Gold Medal Award for Sustainable Development Achievements
The World Environment Center (WEC) was pleased to announce that its 31st Annual Gold Medal for International Corporate Achievement in Sustainable Development would be awarded to SC Johnson. The company was being recognized for its comprehensive, company-wide focus on sustainability and transparency initiatives, capped off by its rigorous "Greenlist process" to improve product ingredients
Beyond meeting regulations, SC Johnson uses more than 45 other criteria to select ingredients, as part of their ingredient selection process. These include carcinogenicity, mutagenicity, reproductive hazards, acute and systemic toxicity, sensitization, endocrine disruption, environmental effects and even criteria based on emerging issues that are still being debated. They were world leaders on this issue, taking action long before they “had to.”
They also evaluate fragrance materials using their SC Johnson Greenlist™. The Greenlist™ process was created in 2001 to help their scientists go beyond regulatory requirements to continually select better ingredients and phase out less desirable ones. When SC Johnson scientists create a new product or reformulation, they work to select raw materials with the highest possible ratings. Reformulations must use ingredients that have ratings equal to or better than the original formula.
